Mars Ownership

Although there may be many international agreements in place - though when it comes to it, colonisation will be decided on Mars, to forestall this, a system of ownership is proposed to encourage Commercial flights to Mars.

The First country or Organisation to stay on Mars for more than 1 year will be assigned a non contiguous areas totaling 7% of the Planet and each country and company involved in space development will receive an equivalent to their part of the total world investment in manned space flight to Mars of a total of 0.7% of the Planet.

The second will receive 4%, the Third 2.5% the Forth 1.5% and the Fifth 1%. After 10 years if still on the planet they will receive a further 1/3 of their original share, after 20 years a further 1/5 and on this scale, until ownership is complete. At any time the owners can sell their ownership, but any one country or organisation can not own more than 1/6th of the planet and cannot own more that 1/6th of each polar region.

It is proposed that certain areas that specifically identify and are the heart of Mars should come under a non-ownership or free state - such as Mt Olympus - the highest mountain in the solar system and the Great Canyon these areas should add up to some 1/5th of the Planet.

A very detailed form of this proposal is being set out and the forum for its perfection will be from the view of EarthLevel.
